It was said that PVE does not support installation on a removable media due to frequent RW, which will wear the media out quickly. Therefore, during the installation process, the media, e.g. a sd-card, is not even listed in the dropdown list.
I found a workaround for it. In fact, it can be installed directly on the installation usb stick ( the one that’s created from the installation iso). To do so, I need to specify under Advanced Options that the max volume size for all volumes (swap, lvm, etc) to be zero. Then it can be successfully installed (as the result, the original installation media is erased).
After this, if I want, I can even clone the stick to another sd-card media, using Ubuntu’s disk utility – disk clone. I did this to clone it to a high endurance sd-card.
